Section History and Foundations of Physics
The long tradition of physics in the Netherlands has always been strongly intertwined with historical, philosophical and foundational reflections on both the content and practice of physics. After a rapid recent expansion of these reflective disciplines since around 2020, the Dutch history and philosophy community joined forces in 2023 under the banner of ‘HPP-NL’: History and Philosophy of Physics in the Netherlands. The NNV section History and Foundations of Physics contributes to the organisation of regular HPP-NL workshops at universities across the Netherlands. The section hopes for a fruitful interdisciplinary collaboration between physicists, philosophers and historians that will improve our understanding of the natural world.
